CO₂ refrigeration systems: design, installation and service

We design, install, commission and service CO₂ (R744) refrigeration systems throughout Poland, mainly in large-format stores and industry. CO₂ is a natural refrigerant with a GWP of 1 and safety class A1 (non-flammable, low toxicity). That is why it is not affected by the restrictions of F-gas Regulation (EU) 2024/573, which phase out high-GWP HFC refrigerants.

Scope

What we do on CO₂ systems

The full scope: from the heat load calculation to servicing the system for years.

  • Design and heat load calculation

Selection of the compressor rack, evaporators and gas coolers, and detailed design documentation.

  • Installation

High-pressure systems, with pipes and fittings suitable for CO₂.

  • Commissioning and adjustment

Pressure tests, charging, site-specific settings, report.

  • Replacing HFC with CO₂

Replacing an HFC system in stages, keeping the site running.

  • Heat recovery

Heat from the system for space heating or domestic hot water.

  • Service and contracts

F-gas leak checks, system monitoring, service contract with 24/7 on-call service.

Refrigerant comparison

CO₂ or HFC: refrigerant comparison

GWP is the global warming potential (CO₂ = 1). The higher it is, the stricter the limits under the F-gas Regulation 2024/573. Class A1 means a non-flammable refrigerant with low toxicity, A3 a flammable one.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

24/7 on-call service

Night, weekend and public holiday on-call service is available to companies with a service contract, and in Warsaw also a guaranteed response within 4 hours. Without a contract we take calls Mon-Fri 8:00-18:00.

Want to be sure a Saturday breakdown will not spoil your stock? Call 516 338 012 and we will match the inspection scope and response time to your cold room.

What is a CO₂ refrigeration system?

It is a system that uses carbon dioxide (R744) as the refrigerant instead of HFC refrigerant. It runs at higher pressures, often as a transcritical system, and works well in large-format stores and in industry.

Is CO₂ a safe refrigerant?

Yes. CO₂ has safety class A1: it is non-flammable and has low toxicity. The system runs at high pressure, so it needs suitable materials, safety devices and sensors, which we include in the design.

Why switch from HFC to CO₂?

CO₂ has a GWP of 1, so it is not affected by the bans and HFC availability restrictions of F-gas Regulation (EU) 2024/573. A CO₂ system also lets you recover heat for space heating or hot water.

How much does a CO₂ refrigeration system cost?

The cost depends on the cooling capacity, the number of refrigerated units and the scope of heat recovery. We price every system individually after an audit, and prepare the quote within 48 hours.

Can an HFC system be replaced with CO₂ in a store that stays open?

Yes, usually in stages: we switch over one group of equipment at a time, so the store keeps operating during the works. We agree the schedule in the design.

Do you service CO₂ systems installed by other companies?

Yes, after first inspecting the system and its documentation.
